Flight WS683 from Toronto to Calgary (Part 3)

Time for one last album before reaching our final Calgary destination and I’m skipping off the Canadiana theme to Americana temporarily with the ‘Piety & Desire‘  album by Gill Landry.

500x500

I don’t mind leaving the Canadiana theme at the moment because this 2010 album is the perfect  compliment to my previous Eaglesmith‘s ‘50 Odd Dollars‘ lisen.  As you might expect from the Old Crow Medicine Show alum, it’s a beautiful album and a gorgeous trip through small town America.

Piety & Desire’  is a a love song to his beginnings as a New Orleans busker; named after two streets that run parallel through the city’s 9th ward where Landry cut his teeth for years. With this album he creates gorgeous characters and loves from “quarter rats” to barmaids, merchants to thieves.  The Felice Brothers co-produce the album with Landry and Jeremy “The Searcher” Backofen.  It also features the talents of Jolie Holland, Brandi Carlile, Ketch Secor, Sam Parton and many others artists, creating an album that is timeless and at times other-worldly.  The perfect “road album”.

Favorites includes ‘Annie‘, ‘Tennessee‘, ‘Careless Love‘, and the uber-infused New Orleans inspired ‘Angel of Mine’.

About crazytigerrabbitman

I am a fat guy and always will be in the same way they say that “once an alcoholic; always an alcoholic”. Eventually I got upset about my poor health and ballooning body frame so I decided to change things for the better. Some people sign up for Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, or whatever fad diet program it is that happens to be occupying the majority of air time on the boob tube. Other people prefer to run out and purchase the latest, fold away, piece of shit being hawked by some celebrity has-been. Me? I decided to take up triathlon. I had abused my body over the years with bacon cheeseburgers, pints of beer and double-dipped donuts, and the time had now come to abuse my body with physical exertion, perseverance and hard work instead; penitence in it's purest form. The time had come to kick my ass. I am Terry Nash and I am the “fat and the furious”.
