On top of this afternoon’s core workout (not to mention this mornings easy 2000m drill swim and easy ride w/ HRH this after work) is this slow and gentle yoga stretch before tending to my Masters spin class. My listening pleasure is the ‘Lying In the Sun‘ EP by Lera Lynn.
This short 5 track (20 minute) EP was released in 2014 on her own label and, no, she’s not a devil worshiper or anything (I think). Although I have no idea whatelse the album cover was trying to depict.
Anyway, wat’s unique to Lera is that she has a haunting voice that can conjure up country legends and the best of the singer-songwriters yet, not really emulate any of them at the same time. The EP itself has an ominous tone (ideal for my lazy stretch this evening), often with a grungy guitar lurking in the background. It’s kinda of like what you might expect to hear if you were to have the Cowboy Junkies cover Julee Cruise songs. It’s a little dark and gloomy, it’s creepy and it’s kooky, mysterious and spooky; it’s all together ooky…
…you get the picture.
‘I Become You‘ is fantastic and ‘Fire‘ kind of sounds like it could have been a Bruce Springsteen cover (it’s not).
A damn fine listen for some light bendy-twisty on quiet mat in the corner.
